White
water Rafting and kayak trips in Southern Africa |
Please note that all these
rivers that we do raft and kayak trips on are, except for the Vaal
and Ash rivers, subject to water-levels. If it hasn't rained enough
in the catchment area of the river, it is possible that some rivers
might be too low to paddle.
Vaal
river
- Parys
(Click
on name for more info) |
The ideal one-day raft outing - or make a
weekend of it . Only one hour's drive from Jo'burg. Easy grade I and
II rapids (on a rising scale of difficulty from I to VI). Suitable
for the whole family, even kids from 6 years will find the rafting a
thrilling experience (if they are comfortable in water and not scared
of swimming in the pool). Enjoy a relaxing raft trip with abundant
birdlife and exciting rapids like "Gatsien" and
"Big Daddy".
Ash
river
- Clarens (in die Vrystaat nogal) |
Enjoy what this picturesque little town with
its many art galleries has to offer, including a very exiting day or
two of rafting and kayaking. The Katze dam in the Lesotho
mountains and the Highlands Water Project ensure a constant flow of
icy cold, crystal clear water that makes for exciting grade III to IV rapids.
Bivane
river
- Vryheid (KwaZulu Natal) |
This is really roughing it for 2 or 3 days,
sleeping over on the banks of the river. The Bivane river flows
through a beautiful, remote area, and the river is very exciting and
technical. Not for the faint-hearted. This outing is exclusive
because there are only a couple of days in the year that the new
Bivane Dam releases water specifically for running rafting and kayak
trips. The trip ends in the Itala Game Reserve. Let's do some
game viewing too! |

Umzimkulu
- Southern Natal |
One of the most beautiful rivers in the country,
with something to offer everyone. Easy grade 1 to 3 raft and kayak
sections ideal for the whole family for a 1 day raft outing or
roughing it a bit on a 4 to 5 day rafting expedition. Or go for
the opposite extreme with serious sections like Thrombosis Gorge only
for the hardcore kayakers out there. You decide! What about something
inbetween? The section at Oribi Gorge close to Port Shepstone is a
must and can also be split into a 1 day outing or a multi-day expedition. |
Umkomaas
- KwaZulu Natal |
Also a river with something for everyone -
mild to wild. Let us know what you have in mind, and we will select a
section most suited to your needs. The section from Hella-hella with
rapids number 1 to 8 is a old-time classic ideal for kayaks and
rafts. Lets go! |
Olifants
- Mpumalanga |
Another remote area with beautiful scenery
and a exciting river with rapids up to grade 3 for 1 day trips or why
not make it a 3 - 4 day trip for the whole family. |
And then there are also 5-7 day expeditions
on the Mzimvubu in the Transkei on special request. We also do trips
on the Wilge, water-levels permitting.
