We river raft and canoe a new section on the Orange River, between Zastron and Aliwal North, in the southern Free State, where the Senque River comes out of Lesotho and then becomes the Orange River in South Africa. Here amongst stunning sandstone cliffs and gorges, here in this absolutely stunning scenery, we will entertain you for 4 or 5 amazing days on the river.
Zastron is only about 600 odd km from Jo'burg. That is a lot closer than the Namibian border. FACT!
And the canoe and raft trips here on this section of the Orange River is just as stunningly beautiful and enjoyable as anywhere else on the Orange River.
On the day before your awesome rafting adventure with Outrageous Adventures, you will sleep over at Mountain View in Zastron. We will supply you beforehand with detailed itineraries, packing lists, and also directions.
On the start of your river rafting trip down the Orange River with Outrageous Adventures, we will transport you to the river (your vehicles are safe at Mountain View in Zastron). Then we will do a safety-brief, explain life as a river-rat for the next few days, pack rafts and set off. The adventure has begun !!
We usually use 2-man inflatables, called 'crocs'. Another option, however, is to use our big 6-man rafts, fitted with an oar-rig, and one of our very experienced, well trained, guides on the raft with you, doing all the paddling. No hard work required by yourselves! This option is available for families with younger kids (from as young as 5 years old), which makes it completely safe for these young kids on the river. This means you as a family are all together on a raft, a more unique and pleasurable experience. And as already mentioned, very very safe, especially for the younger kids.
But families with teenagers, can still go for the 2-man inflatable 'croc' option. The kids are more independant then, and love every second of their Orange River adventure!
The Orange River flows through a beautiful deep gorge here between Zastron and Aliwal North, and the scenery is stunning. There are a few rapids as well, just to keep things interesting. At night we camp next to the river, gather fire-wood, help with the meals, and make a huge bon-fire! A truly amazing experience! With the stars overhead. A truly relaxing, unique, getting-away-from-it-all holiday!!
